Position Description:

Full-time. The Assistant Director of Management Information Services (MIS) provides leadership for establishing and maintaining an optimal information system for the college that is based in computer technologies. This leadership responsibility requires that the assistant director be cognizant of the latest technologies, formulate strategic plans for improving information systems, manage the development of new information systems, manage computer resources, manage budgets, provide leadership for MIS staff, establish standards for MIS operations, establish standards for data security, contribute by membership on college committees, act as liaison to SUNY data collection agencies, provide information systems support to all administrative offices and work with an understanding of the mission and goals of the college. Serves as college subject matter expert in information systems and software technologies.

Essential Functions:

General:

  • Oversees and sets standards for college’s central computer operations.
  • Oversees the operations of the college’s ERP and other administrative systems as well as the integration of the ERP with other systems.
  • Responsible for managing computer operations and developing software, as needed.
  • Leads and manages complex technology projects and implementations.
  • Develops non-strategic as well as strategic information systems plans.
  • Provides administrative information systems user support.
  • Coordinates upgrades and patches for the ERP.
  • Assists staff in completing MIS-related operations, as needed.
  • Sets documentation standards for internal MIS operations.

Leadership and Planning:

  • Directs and coordinates the activities of the MIS team. Assigns work, conducts performance assessments, ensures proper training, support and resources for the team.
  • Provides leadership and direction for MIS staff.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, is responsible for setting the direction and providing support for the college’s administrative information systems.
  • Assists with the department’s budget preparation and execution.
  • Works closely with and serves as JCC liaison to SICAS, ITEC, and other service providers.
  • Works closely with members of the technology leadership team.
  • Serves as a member of assigned college committees and collaborates with other college departments on information systems.
  • Serves as liaison to SUNY data collection agencies.
  • Serves a member in statewide organizations related to JCC’s MIS-related activities.

Security and Disaster Recovery:

  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Technical Support Services, Assistant Director of Infrastructure and Security Services and the Executive Director to maintain a technology disaster recovery plan.
  • Manages the security of the ERP.
  • Establishes security standards for administrative data systems.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree, plus five (5) years’ experience in information systems and/or programming/development.

Preferred: Experience managing staff. In-depth experience with Ellucian Banner administration. Experience developing software. Knowledge of SQL and Java. Working with Windows and Linux. Experience working for an educational institution. Experience managing a relational database.

Additional Information:

Salary: $62,259 - $86,195. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
