Position Description:

Full-time, 12-month position with flexible work options during academic year breaks (e.g., spring break). The associate dean is an administrative position with responsibility for managing a division of programs and aligned learning opportunities for students. The associate dean is responsible for helping to establish and advance the academic and learning-focused vision of the college. Associate deans maintain connection with one or more relevant programs and/or disciplines within their division, and they are encouraged to engage in student-facing work to the extent possible. The associate dean also manages unit-wide programs and initiatives, and is a member of an administrative team that is responsible for empowering faculty leadership, ensuring sound faculty-administration communication, nurturing student development, facilitating planning and budgeting, connecting curriculum and learning, and fulfilling the tasks of academic leadership. The associate dean oversees college-wide academic and workforce-oriented programs and disciplines on the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses, as well as at other college sites and locations, ensuring a high level of communication and problem solving. Associate deans are members of appropriate, college-wide decision-making bodies who participate in and prepare recommendations on collective bargaining issues, and they may serve on administrative negotiating teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Driving and managing the development, assessment, and revision of divisional programs, other credentials, and disciplinary curricula.

  • Collaborating with faculty to develop divisional goals that align program and discipline directions with the college-wide strategic and operational plan.

  • Providing administrative leadership for one major ongoing area of responsibility (e.g., Judicial Affairs, Healthcare Capacity Building), as well as ongoing engagement with their respective academic program or discipline (e.g., Criminal Justice, Nursing).

  • Assuming responsibility for one major unit-wide process-improvement project annually (e.g., adjunct faculty onboarding and development, technical support for faculty).

  • Collaborating on development of institutional course schedules and other materials to ensure optimal student access.

  • Attending to the curricular needs of learners across all sites, including online learners and high school-based learners.

  • Hiring, developing, supporting, managing, and evaluating personnel.

  • Engaging in problem-finding, problem-solving, and process-improvement.

  • Facilitating the integration of divisional planning and budgeting work, collaborating to locate and apply for funding sources (e.g., grants).

  • Other duties as assigned by the VP of Academic Affairs.

Qualifications:

Required: Minimum of master’s degree. Minimum of three (3) years administrative responsibility in a higher education or comparable setting. Teaching experience. High level of communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and customer service skills. Ability to establish a positive, collaborative, and development-oriented work environment. Demonstrated commitment to identifying creative solutions and to working across functional areas. Experience with program/course development, review, and assessment. Must be results-oriented.

Must be able to: coordinate and develop complex documents; read and apply laws, rules, collective bargaining agreements, and regulations; write and deliver persuasive proposals/presentations; plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects in a team setting. Attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred: Teaching and/or leadership experience in a community college setting.

Additional Information:

Salary: $80,000- $90,000. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
